“My favorite part of the year was getting to participate in Summer Masterclass Week where I got to work with faculty members from various programs across the country, including Texas State University, the school I’ll be attending in the Fall!

“Working with the incredible community that is MTCA made a long and difficult process so much easier. MTCA events like Mock Auditions and Masterclass Weekend gave me an opportunity to receive feedback from a variety of professional voices, including a professor from the very college I am now attending!”

“Thank you to the WHOLE MTCA team for putting on an exhilarating week! Everything was perfectly planned and timed; your organizational skills are top-notch! If I didn’t know it before (and I did), this was a perfect example of why MTCA was the best option for my family. We started the week on Monday with Matt (who is amazing) and got our headshots back by Thursday, and then we could meet with coaches in person! The rest of the week, my daughter was exhausted but so excited to come back and tell me about her teachers and how she got something out of EVERY class. Thank you to all the teachers who took time out of their summer to teach and answer questions. Thank you to Lila [Coogan] & Ethan [Haberfield] for the Q&A, they were fantastic! The cast of The Great Gatsby who stayed behind to answer questions, I mean come on! The way the students were so excited to see each other in person, and how they supported and cheered for each other, is inspiring! AND to all the parents who came, THANK YOU, it was great to listen to your journeys and to have someone to share this crazy process with.

“An incredible week! Averi and I both learned so much, met so many incredible people, and loved the honesty of the Q&As. Averi got to see two of her amazing coaches too, who were in many of her classes! As a parent, watching my daughter grow creatively and seeing her confidence shine this week is priceless. We are grateful to have all of you as our guiding light in this unpredictable process.

“If your budget allows it, please please please enroll your child in the MTCA Summer Masterclass Week! That experience charged my son with confidence and joy that I fail to describe! The chance of meeting so many MT college faculty (many of whom they will meet again in an audition room) while feeling supported by their MTCA team is an invaluable growth opportunity.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any artistic minimums to participate?

Yes. Participants must have completed at least 2 hrs of artistic coachings on the piece they will perform.  This DOES NOT include an hour of song/monologue selection, but FRAMEWORK (the second hour of coaching after a piece is chosen) does count toward one hour of artistic coaching.  To participate in Dance Class you must have had a Dance Assessment. (This does not include a dance consult.)

Why participate in masterclasses?

These are classes. Not auditions! This incredible week is designed for you to grow artistically with your material, while also making an early connection with these teachers, both professionally and personally. It’s a big perk when you know the teacher entering your auditions in the regular season. Consequently, teachers often remember you from our masterclasses. You’ll participate with each teacher, observe the different sensibilities within teaching styles, and immerse yourself with your peers; allowing the teacher to observe (separate from your actual audition) your interest and commitment for the school. Many of our alumni students have found these masterclasses very beneficial to boost confidence for their actual audition for each school, as well as make great conversation starters for the beginning of their auditions. Even if a school represented in the week is not on your current audition school list, take advantage of their artistic excellence in assisting you to build your material. And you may add the school to your audition list!

What should I prepare?

If you’re singing a Song: 32 bar cut of a song as well as a track for your accompaniment. Any style. (Your MTCA Song Coach can assist you!)

If you’re working on a Monologue: Your monologue cannot exceed 1 mins in length. Any style. (Your MTCA Monologue Coach can assist you!)

I always LOVE working with MTCA students and staff!

The students are so happy and excited to learn. It brings me the most joy when I meet and work with the students at MTCA and then become their teacher when they attend Boston Conservatory! You can’t go wrong attending this program.”

I absolutely love teaching the MTCA students!

They are open-minded, curious, and game for anything. I know that whatever style of dance or movement I bring to the workshop the students will jump in with both feet. They are fearless! And kind. And professional. I just can’t say enough good things about my interactions with the entire MTCA crew over the years.

They are the most amazing humans and the work they do on behalf of the students is truly exceptional.”

They do a stellar job preparing students for their upcoming auditions.  The leadership is a group of top-notch professionals with clear expertise, impeccable organization, and insight.  The students I worked with were talented, curious, enthusiastic, and extremely well prepared.
