Katie Rose McLaughlin is an Obie and Drama League Award-winning choreographer and director based in New York City. Originally from Minneapolis, MN, she trained in ballet under Bonnie Mathis and began her theater career after studying at a renowned clown school in Switzerland. She has performed with the Tony Award-winning Theatre de la Jeune Lune and as Esmeralda in Hunchback (Redmoon Theater) at Shakespeare Theatre (Washington, DC), Rockefeller Chapel (Chicago), and the New Victory Theater (NYC), where it was a New York Times Critics’ Pick.

Her choreography and direction have been presented at Ars Nova, HERE Arts Center, Joe’s Pub, Under the Radar, La MaMa, St. Ann’s Warehouse, Abrons Arts Center, Target Margin, The New Ohio, BRIC, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and The Connelly Theater. She was Associate Director/Choreographer for Hadestown (Broadway, New York Theatre Workshop, Edmonton, South Korea) and choreographer for the First National Tour.

Katie Rose is Artistic Director of Designated Movement Company, creating avant-garde dance theater examining societal hierarchies through a queer, feminist lens. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Chautauqua Institution, La MaMa, CultureHub, LMCC Process Space, Kaatsbaan, Dance Lab New York, and LMCC’s SPARC program. From 2020-2022, she co-created and directed work for Theater in Quarantine, which produced over 20 evenings of work, earned four New York Times Critics’ Picks, and was featured on NPR’s All Things Considered.

A proud member of SDC and Ring of Keys, Katie Rose also leads the community dance event LINE DANCE CLUB, recently featured in Annie-B Parson’s The Choreography of Everyday Life.
